Middle School Girls Basketball Elizabethtown 35, West Columbus 9

EVERGREEN – Iveonna Ward and Laila Smith combined for 25 points Monday as Elizabethtown rolled to a 35-9 Waccamaw Middle School girls basketball victory over West Columbus.

Ward blistered the nets with 5 baskets in the opening quarter, and Laila Smith raced to the rim for 4 baskets in the period. Zoe Smith and Niyah Wooten tossed in a basket as the Lady Cougars raced to a 22-5 lead.

Laila Smith, Ward and Ariel Cromartie threw in a basket each in the second quarter, and Laila Smith sank a free throw as the margin grew to 29-5 at halftime. Wooten, Ward and Cromartie tossed in a basket each in the second half.

Ward led the Lady Cougars with 14 points, and Laila Smith finished with 11 points. Wooten and Cromartie totaled 4 points each. Tierra Braddy scored 4 points to top the Warrior scoring list.

Coach Cedric Owens’ Lady Cougars improved to 4-1 in Waccamaw Division AA play and 6-1 overall and will host Bladenboro Thursday.
